8. The Bather by Paul
Cezanne seen at MOMA
NY 2/12/07. Not being a
fan of Cezanne this piece
won me over showing the
quite extraordinary
normality of the male form.
9. I and The Village by Marc
Chagall seen at MOMA NY
2/12/07. My dear,dear long lost
friend Erika Frankland turned me
on to Chagall. Her andmy favorite
of his works being Cemetary Gates
(Smiths reference). As a gift to
cheer her up when Ron Wexler
upset her I bought her brass
renditions of the Jerusalem
windows. This is a nice piece but a
filler.
10. Flag by Jasper Johns seen at MOMA
NY 2/12/07. Taking patriotism without
reaching the level of rabid nationalism is
hard. Americans, I think, like to take their
flag waving to the level of burning all
others. Johns does not do this though, and
I love his work.
11. Hope II by Gustav Klimt
seen at MOMA NY 2/12/07. I
love the closeness of the hugs
Klimt creates, they make me
with I was enveloped in the
silkened arms.
12. Untitled by Lou Bontecou
seen at MOMA NY 2/12/07.
This piece was fantastic. It
changed its shape and depth
depending on your angle.
14. One: Number 31 by Jackson Pollack seen at MOMA
NY 2/12/07. Pollack is Pollack. To choose your favorite
you need to weigh color and intensity of the strokes. This
is a good example of his intensity while being full of depth
and light on color. It does not need the added dimension.
15. The Starry Night by Vincent
Van Gogh seen at MOMA NY
2/12/07. You almost forget there is
a town beneath the sky it is painted
with such vigor but it is there and I
feel like you walk to it and then
look up at the majesty.
16.Campbell Soup Cans by Andy
Warhol seen at MOMA NY 2/12/07. I
must admit, I am not a fan of Wharhol.
I was not impressed with his movies
and I am not impressed with much of
his work. However, the Campbell Soup
Cans makes my top 100 on the merit
of its orignality. That and I thought
they were all tomato and it turns out to
be the wrong range.
13. Christina's World by Andrew Wyeth
seen at MOMA NY 2/12/07. My new
favorite artist, or one of them. Wyeth
brings mid Western America to life,
wholesome honest people, their land,
farms. I am searching for more of his
work.
17. Persistence of Memory by Salvador Dali
seen at MOMA NY 2/12/07. Dali is seem by
most to be a show off, like Picasso he was a
very talented painted who chose an overly
elaborate form of expression that makes him
either loved or hated. As a student everyone
owns this poster and as an adult I was
happy to see it again, albeit as small as a
book and no longer as amazing.
